Rick Hill, folk musician and songwriter, will host a new Open Mic at the Y Arts Center, 115 E. Church St. Frederick, MD on Friday, November 11 from 7-9 PM. A $5 donation is requested. This will be all acoustic, no sound system will be used.
Frederick Acoustic Music Enterprise (F.A.M.E.) and the Frederick YMCA are collaborating to offer local musicians an opportunity to get in front of a crowd and perform. There will be 12 slots available. Sign-ups begin at 6:30 on Friday. Each act will get 2 songs or ten minutes.
Since November 11 is Veterans Day, performers may want to do a song honoring our veterans. As the closing song, all of the evening’s performers will be asked to join together and sing “America the Beautiful.”
F.A.M.E. ran the Open Mic at Sky Stage, but with winter pressing in they wanted a place that was heated and covered. The Y Arts Center has a fantastic room that has great acoustics so no sound system is needed. Both groups wanted to encourage younger musicians, so the collaboration made perfect sense.
